MUSIC’S HOTTEST PLUS SIZE STARS
Music is the way we express feelings and ourselves. It can embody emotions, if written well, and move us to action. It connects the world and is inclusive. Most importantly, it shows us that it’s about the talent, even more than the appearance. Here are some of our favorite plus size singers
ARETHA FRANKLIN
Why we love her
She truly is the Queen of Soul, with one of most unique voices in the history of music. Her career has spanned an incredible six decades, and includes winning 18 Grammy awards, selling over 75 million records worldwide, and being the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Phew!.
ADELE
Why we love her
Though she was previously mentioned in our “Plus size in entertainers” article, we could not write a piece on music and not mention the hottest act at the moment. Adele transcends the worlds of music and film. Having already collected 10 Grammys, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for Best Original Song, there is no telling just how high her star will reach.
MEGHAN TRAINOR
Why we love her
She is quickly becoming the spokesperson for loving your body in music. Over the past year, Meghan Trainor has made body confidence part of her platform. It started with her debut hit “All About That Bass,” which broadcast its message loud and clear: “every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.”
BRITTANY HOWARD
Why we love her
If you have yet to hear the soulful, melodic voice of Brittany Howard and her band the Alabama Shakes, do yourself a favour, and get on that right now (after reading this article of course ). We love her because in an era of auto-tuned and super-produced music, Howard is a refreshing throwback to powerful vocalists of the past. Check back here next week when we do a full length article dedicated to her!
ELLE KING
Why we love her
With a hit song under her belt and two Grammy nominations for her song “Ex’s & Oh’s,” rock singer Elle King is well on her way to becoming a household name. Having grown up as the child of a famous comedian (her dad is Rob Schneider), she decided at an early age that she wanted to accomplish success on her own merits, deciding to take her mother’s maiden name.
BETH DITTO
Why we love her
The fierce, fearless former lead singer of the band the Gossip wears many hats. As well as singing, she has also authored a couple of books, turned her hand at fashion design with an independent range this year, and hit the catwalk. This month, Ditto made a surprise appearance at New York Fashion Week, walking in Marc Jacobs’ SS16 show.
KELLY CLARKSON
Why we love her
After when the first season of ‘American Idol”, Clarkson quickly rose through the ranks of stardom. Most expected her to be a flash in the pan, but here she is so many years later still continuing strong. Clarkson is no stranger to rude critiques, as seen when she appeared on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live earlier this year, she answered most questions diplomatically except when asked about fat shamers. To that question, she simply replied, “Screw ’em.”
